Percussion instruments date back to the beginnings of the human species. Primitive people were those who discovered the rhythm and began to use drums and tambourines (for various rituals, for communication as well as for entertainment).

One of the most popular percussion instruments for beginners is the well-known cajon. This percussion box mimics the sound of the bass drum (if it is being hit in the middle) and the small drum (if it is being hit on the edges). This instrument can be used to play most musical styles, and a beginner can learn to use it relatively quickly. Contact My Music Supply for inventory and lesson availability.

Other very popular percussion instruments:

Djembes drums

Djembes drums are arguably is the most notorious type of percussion instruments. It originates from Central-West Africa. They have the shape of cups and most of them are carved from a single piece of wood (although nowadays there are also composite djembes available on the market).

Conga drums

They originate in the African culture, but have developed very much in Latin America - under the influence of the synthesis of African and Spanish cultures. Conga drums are usually used in pairs - two drums on the same support. These are quite high drums - the upper and lower sides are narrower and they are bulging in the middle.

Bongo drums

They come from central America (Cuba). Bongo drums consist of a pair of rather small drums. They are played using the fingertips, which makes them ideal for children.
