Tips for Learning to Play the Vibraphone

The vibraphone is a percussion instrument in the struck idiophone subcategory that consists of metal bars and it is played through hitting the bars with mallets and dampening the sound with the help of the pedal.

While the instrument seems more complex than individual drums, it is also quite easy to learn to play. Here are some tips:

  • -Learn to read sheet music – learning to play an instrument is possible by the ear, but the tedious process of learning to read music is something that will make your progress in playing the vibraphone much faster and the process much more rewarding;
  • -Learn the right posture – the correct posture is essential for playing the vibraphone correctly, so start figuring out how to adopt the right body position;
  • -Learn the layout of the keys – the vibraphone is a percussion instrument, but the layout of the keys is very similar to the layout used on keyboard instruments.
